Los mojao' explore the Caribbean Sea as both a physical and metaphorical body, carrying the stories of emigration across its depths. For centuries, this vibrant expanse has been more than a geographic landmark; it has been a pathway, a refuge, and at times, a perilous boundary that separates aspirations from reality. In this series Vitaly looks at the Caribbean as a witness and a force within the vast history of human movement across shores, through dreams, and everything behind.

Meet the artist
Born on May 26, 1997, in the Dominican Republic, Vitaly Lopez Recio (she, her, hers) finished her high school degree in Saint Croix, one of the US Virgin Islands. In 2015, she began her studies in fine arts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and culminated her studies with a master’s degree in painting at the New York Academy of Art.
